Music Stand

When I began taking guitar lessons I knew that I would need a music stand. Yet I didn't like the flimsy fold-up metal stands, and the heavy black ones just didn't seem very attractive. After almost a year of thinking and procrastination I came up with this design, which has worked very well. There is a hinge on the back that permits the top to tilt between vertical and about 45 degrees. Where the center pole attaches to the base one can swivel the pole. The stand is made from the same wood mentioned in the text accompanying the Advent Candle item.

The hexagon base is a solid chunk of fir. The three legs are doweled into that base. If I was to revist the project today I would have attached the legs with sliding dovetails instead. A tenon extends upward from the base and slides within a motise in the long shaft. The tenon and mortise are about 1-1/2 inches in length. It is this connection that provides the rotation capability for the stand.
