Rescued Wood Projects

The first wood I rescued came from a pair of mantles over some circa-early-1970's fireplaces. They turned out to be solid hunks of close-grained fir! My Father-in-Law spotted some wood at his workplace that had been used to hold pipes together for shipment. The wood seemed nice to him so he snagged it for me. Turned out that it was a mixture of oak, beech and a few hunks of walnut. Again my Father-in-Law saved some wood from a set of shelves that were being torn down. This turned out to be Philippine Mahogany. The boards were warped, cupped and twisted, but that's what a jointer and planer are for! After changing our minds in the midst of landscaping our new house, I ended up in possestion of a dozen 2x6 redwood decking boards.
