The Pastoral Care brings
together the various ministries in our Church which are pastoral
in nature and we look at ways in which we can carry out our mission
To live in and demonstrate Christ's love, by nourishing a
faith community and intentionally sharing Christ's love with others.
The ministry positions
in the area of pastoral care offer opportunities to provide loving
care to others in on-going or infrequent capacities. Following are
ministry opportunities:
Stephen Ministry
Stephen Minister (2-year
commitment including 50 hours of training. Following training, 10-15
hours per month)
Stephen Ministers offer
Christian care giving and support for people experiencing life difficulties
such as the death of a loved one, job crisis, aging, separation
or divorce, long term illness, or to those needing the support of
a Christian friend.
Gifts: Compassion, ability
to listen, people skills.
Healing Ministry
Since 1998, a group of
individuals who feel called to a healing ministry have been meeting.
Prayers, laying on of hands and anointing are available to all who
seek healing for themselves or for others. We petition God for physical,
emotional, mental and spiritual healing. The Healing Team is also
available on Sunday during and following the Eucharist to pray for
those desiring prayer. For more information, please contact Mona
Blandford (see parish directory). The Healing Team will also make
hospital or house calls.
Gifts: Desire to lift
up others to God for healing, ability to play a musical instrument;
desire to praise God through song and prayer.
Organizers for meals,
emergency transportation, other emergency household needs (Infrequent
- but this depends on needs of the congregation, quarterly meeting)
Organizers serve on a
sub-committee, which arranges for meals, transportation, or other
services for individuals or families that are experiencing a crisis
such as hospitalization, major medical treatment, or a death in
the family. The organizers will call team members who have volunteered
to provide the meals or other services.
Gifts: hospitality, ability
to communicate with those in crisis, ability and time to work under
short notice, telephone skills, ability to contact or ask others
to help.
Meal Providers (Infrequent)
Team members provide
a meal to an individual or to a family at a time of crisis or emergency.
These individuals are contacted when the Pastoral Care Team receives
a request for assistance from an individual or indirectly through
the clergy. Contact Debbie Hinerman if you are interested in helping
with this ministry.
Gifts: Hospitality, cooking
skills or ability to provide a meal from a commercial establishment.
Transportation, Respite
Care, and Emergency Helpers (Infrequent)
Team members provide
transportation, respite care, or other household services in crisis
situations and usually upon short notice.
Gifts: Time and the skills
related to the service you will provide, e.g. drivers license and
good driving skills. If you have a special gift or talent that you
are willing to share with someone in need, please let us know!
LEVS share communion
with those who are ill or infirm immediately after the principal
Eucharist on Sundays. The Rev. Jodie Steeves is the principal contact
for those who desire a LEV.
Gifts: Faith, ability
to work with those who are ill or infirm.
The prayer network is
a group of devoted people whose primary purpose is intercessory
prayer. They pray daily for the sick, the troubled, and the lonely
- all who have a need for prayers. Each week a list of persons for
whom we are praying is given to all prayer network members and emergency
requests for prayer are passed down to the prayer members through
phone or email contacts. The prayer network is under the direction
of Daughters of the King.
Gifts: Desire to meet
with God about the needs of others.
