Making Sharp Bends in Wire

Making Sharp Bends in Wire.

Sometimes a design you are working on requires very sharp bends in wire, which is difficult to achieve by just bending Here is how you make bends like that:

Using the corner of a bastard file, cut an angle into the spot where you want the bend.

Use long even strokes with light pressure to produce a neat notch in the wire.

Make sure to not cut deeper than about 3/4 of the way through the wire. The wider you make the angle of the notch, the sharper the bend will be when you close the wire up.

When you have your notches cut, bend the wire at the notch until the two sides come together. Make sure you are ready to do this step prior to doing it. At this point, if you reopen the wire, chances are it will break at your cut.

Once you have all your angles made, heat, flux, and solder each joint using hard solder.

File any excess solder off, and you are ready to continue with the rest of your piece.
