Making Quick Ear Wires

Need an ear wire quick, and you are all out?

Here is a quick ear wire that looks good for nearly any earring.

I first twist a single strand of 20 or 21 gauge square wire. I twist about 12 inches at a time. Be sure to anneal it first. If you do not the twist will not be even and/or the wire will break easily as you try to twist it. I just use a variable speed drill for this twisting. To do this, put one end in the drill, and hold the other end in your other hand with pliers. Slowly twist the wire. You can twist it as much as you wish, but if you twist it too much, it can lose the nice twist look and the wire will look round. This twisting will also work harden the wire so that it will be perfect for an ear wire.

Step 1:
Cut a piece of wire about 2 inches long.

Step 2:
Make a small loop on one end by using the small end of your round nose pliers.

Step 3:
Make a large bend that will fit the ear about 1/2 inch from the small circle.

Step 4:
About a 1/4 inch from this large bend, make another large bend the opposite direction to make the ear wire easy to place into the ear.

Step 5:
Cut the excess wire off at about 1/4 inch after the last bend. You have an ear wire!

Step 6:
Bend one of the small circles open sideways (Never open them by making the circle larger!) and put the earring onto the ear wire.
