I always use a "Bright Boy" polishing wheel to gently prepolish anywhere the large 6 inch buffing wheels can not
reach. Bright Boy wheels can be purchased from Rio Grande. I only use
the white, knife edged, wheels.

These are the only rubberized wheels I ever recommend for silver. I have tried every wheel that I have been able to find, and would not trade one 40 cent Bright Boy wheel for 100 different wheels from any other company. Somehow they are made so that they work very fast, and at the same time, polish the surface. After you use one, it is only necessary to lightly buff it with white diamond and then zam to a mirror finish. Every other wheel that I have tried that were coarse enough to "cut" quickly, would also leave large scratches, requiring more clean up. Fine wheels that will leave a smooth, fine polish work so slowly that I just threw them away. These Bright Boys are the only wheels that work very, very fast, and leave a nearly polished surface. Even though they cut very fast, they are still fine enough to easily control the amount of metal being removed. I use them to clean up the solder joints on bezels without ever worrying about eating through them. These Bright Boy wheels are very safe to use around nearly every stone, except for the very soft ones, such as amber. This makes it possible to use a lot of good hard solder on the bezel joint, and then clean it up very fast--no more than 20 seconds, with out fear of hurting your stones.
