The Amateur Radio Licenses

• Technician : 35 question written exam
• General : Technician + 35 question written exam + 5 wpm Morse code
• Amateur Extra : General + 50 question written exam

The license structuring has been simplified as of April 15th, 2000. Study for and pass 26 of the 35 questions and you can be on the air with a Technician's license.

With the Technician license under your belt, pass another 26 of 35 questions from the General license question pool, pass the 5 wpm morse code test and you have a General license.

Pass the Amateur Extra written exam (38 of the 50 questions) with the General license in your possesion and you now hold the top license for amateur radio.
