
P.E.D.A.L. History
Introduction
P.E.D.A.L. has a long history of
community involvement, political advocacy on behalf of cyclist, social
activities, and efforts to promote safety.
Past Activities
- The first Earth Day, April 1970:
P.E.D.A.L. founded by Joe Brockstein, Jim Disney, Art Minnick, and Darrel Smith
as People's Efforts to De-emphasize Automobiles in Loveland.
- Straightened the City of Loveland
out when it passed stupid bicycle-related laws in mid 70's.
- Helped organize first Loveland Bike
Week with Kerry Randa, 1987.
- Served on committee that organized
first Colorado Bike Week.
- Organized second Loveland Bike Week,
1989.
- Ran Bike Rodeo at Loveland Police
Fair, 1990.
- P.E.D.A.L. members contributed to
transportation master plan created by the Northern Front Range Regional
Transportation Planning and Air Quality Program Council (NFRT & AQPC)
Bikeways Focus Group. (Not making this name up: this is what happens when
government administrators name things.)
- Youth Environmental Summit
educational exhibitor.
- Earth Day exhibitor ever since its
revival in late 80's.
- Consulted with City of Loveland on
east-west mobility study, 1996.
- Leadership Loveland community group
exhibitor, 1997.
- Many organized bicycle rides over
the last 30 years.
