Walkie-Talkies Swim with the UDT

Here an expert communications technician puts new batteries in one of the Frogmen's tiny walkie-talkies. These small units are important for keeping in contact with the main party, one another, or the launching craft standing out to sea waiting to pick them up after the project has been completed. These small radios are towed right along with the men as they swim through the depths on their missions. They are carried in water-tight containers so that when ready for use they are dry and ready to make contact. These small two-way radios are light in weight and have a range of several miles, particularly over water, where there are no obstructions to deflect the transmission waves.
