Fishy Camera

This odd-looking affair with the stubby aqua-wings and rudder is a water-tight camera for taking undersea movies. Here, demonstrated in a training tank, the Frogmen learn how to use it. The knobs on the sides of the camera are water-tight adjustments for operation of it, and the rudder and wings help hold the camera steady so that it does not roll and bob about as it is used. The camera is inside the outer shell that also serves as an air chamber to buoy the camera when under the surface. This is called the Aquaflex Underwater Housing, and the camera is the 35 mm. Eclair Camerette motion-picture camera. Under the keel of the unit is a sliding weight that can be adjusted fore and aft to make the camera either nose-heavy or tail-heavy to help aim the lens and hold it steady. Here the weight is forward and the camera is nose-heavy, with the lens pointing down.
