Cargo of Destruction

These veteran UDT men paddle calmy along, unconcerned that between them are several hundred pounds of high explosives. In channel blasting or post-invasion clean-up work, great quantities of such explosives must be used to remove such hazards as sunken ships, man-made obstructions, and obstacles missed before. Often after a successful invasion deep channels must be blasted so that supply ships can approach the shore to discharge their cargoes or take on equipment no longer needed, or pick up many wounded from the heavy action just over. The Frogmen blast these channels for the boats. Note that the explosives are carried in canvas bags designed for the purpose. The reel of white "cord" is actually detonating fuse for the men to use to set off the charges.
