FROGMEN

Warm-Water Wear

When operating in warm water, the full-length rubber suit is not required, and so the Frogman nearly straps on his oxygen tanks, flippers, and vision mask, and he is ready to go. Shorts are the usual uniform for this type of swimming and mission, plus a belt for carrying a knife, rope, and other gear required for the specific project ahead. All Frogmen are volunteers and may be from any branch of naval service. They do not even have to be able to swim when they first apply for the training as Frogmen. Many who later on can swim for miles through rough water and dangerous surf couldn't swim the length of a fifty-yard pool when they started their training. The main requirements for the Frogmen are a rugged constitution, top physical condition, and the ambition to be one of the UDT's. Height and weight are not important, for they have no bearing upon the work - and rest assured that any excess weight will soon vanish!
