Greg Pankiewicz Interview by Zach
Greg Pankiewicz is definitely one of the best
forwards in all of the CHL. He
played in the All-Star game in New Mexico and finished as the second leading
scorer in the CHL. Pankiewicz has
played 21 total games in the NHL where he tallied three assists.
He is combination of speed, strength, and a great eye for the net, which
equals a scary player for the opponent. I
had the opportunity to interview Greg after the win against Tulsa on 3/3/04, a
game where “Panks” scored a short-handed goal.
Zach Balside: What is the biggest difference
between the CHL and the NHL?
Greg Pankiewicz: The players are bigger and the
skill of the players is better.
ZB: How does it feel to have a bunch of fans cheer
for you, especially after you score a goal, as you did tonight?
GP: The fans are ‘big assets’. They put energy into the team.
They help us win.
ZB: What’s your favorite brand of hockey gear?
GP: I guess CCM, or Louisville.
ZB: What is the hardest thing about scoring a
short-handed goal?
GP: Well, obviously you’re a man down, so it’s
hard, you need luck.
ZB: How do you feel about the Eagles’ chances of
winning the CHL championship?
GP: We’ve got to keep working hard.
We’ve got just as good of a chance as anyone else.
ZB: What do you eat before a hockey game?
GP: I like Hogan’s in Windsor. Chicken, rice, and pasta.
ZB: Are you ever worried or nervous before an away
game?
GP: I’ve played long enough to where I’m not
nervous anymore.
ZB: How does it feel to play on the best line in
the CHL (Panks, Riley Nelson, and Ryan Tobler)?
GP: It’s special.
We’ve got to keep working hard.
ZB: Last question.
Have you ever felt like you needed to kill somebody, you know, like whack
them over the head with your stick or something?
GP: (laughs) It’s an intense sport.
You have to be careful.
