Saint Vrain Creek

Saint Vrain Creek
I took Seda Cyclone for an evening practice on St Vrain Creek. I launched at Wildcat under the county road 19 bridge north of St. Vrain Power Plant. I paddled about 1 mile upstream and then returned back. I would go much further with the same effort in my Sisson kayak. The typical winter flow of ~120 cfs was sufficient for downriver paddling, but some shallow spots were hard on my paddle when going upstream.

I did some driving around before paddling. Wildcat remains the best access point: no fences on the right shore near the bridge. It seems that the river access from the 34 county road bridge may be difficult due to fences. In April of 2004 I launched further upstream from the busy highway 66 about 5.25 miles downstream from St Vrain State Park where Last Chance Ditch was returning back to the river bringing some water. I also discovered a nice view of the wildly meandering St Vrain Creek from high hills of Wildcat Mound when driving on the county road 17 north from highway 66.
