Tue - February 14, 2006South Platte River: Annual Club Paddling from Evans to Kersey and to Kuner - March 18th, 2006![]() The local Colorado paddling clubs are once again offering an annual South Platte River Trip from Evans to Kuner on March 18th. This is a way for members to meet fellow paddlers from the other clubs but everybody is welcome: - Rocky Mountain Canoe Club - Rocky Mountain Sea Kayak Club - Colorado Whitewater Association - Poudre Paddlers - Canoe Colorado It is also a great occasion to see very different paddling boats: canoes, sea kayaks, home built boats, racing boats, white water kayaks, inflatables. For details check trip schedule of any of the above clubs. This is an easy stretch of the river suitable for beginners and families. There are two short portages over dams. You can paddle 9 miles down river to Kersey or 15 miles to Kuner. When I am not participating in WaterTribe events in Florida I paddle this South Platte trip. However, I am using it for some training before incoming races. So, I am starting very early morning from Kersey and paddling upstream 9 miles trying to reach Evans Riverside Park about 10am when club paddlers are ready to depart after driving shuttles. After this upstream workout I can enjoy a relaxed floating down river at least till the second dam portage where the group is stopping for a lunch break.
