TITS2 - This Is the Sea II DVD by Justine Curvengen

This is the sea by Justine Curvengen and Cacle TV was the first action sea kayaking movie. She shoots her footage directly from her own kayak, following paddlers through crashing surf, exciting tidal races, and fascinating sea caves and arches. You can't get any closer to the action without actually being there yourself. I watched that DVD several times not only for entertainment, but also to improve my own attempts in shooting and editing video clips. Of course, I don't have the same professional video equipment, but I am also try to shoot with a bullet cam from the board of a kayak or canoe.

Great news! Justine is about to release her second 90 minutes sea kayaking DVD, This is the sea II, with photography from Japan, Tasmania, Newfoundland, The Great Lakes, Skooks, Norway & Wales featuring some of the world's best paddlers. If you visit her website you can play some clips from the new DVD. It looks like it is loaded with sea kayaking action again:

  • 6 month circumnavigation of Japan by Hadas Feldman and Jeff Allen
  • black belt seakayaking at "The Bitches" tidal race in South Wales
  • stunning scenery on the remote Lofoton Islands in Norway
  • Bryan Smith surviving multiple rolls at "Skooks" tidal rapid
  • paddling with icebergs and whales in Newfoundland
  • international racing kayaker Sean Morley
  • underwater rolling footage with Greenland-style paddler Doug VanDoren
  • exploring the Manitou Islands on Lake Michigan
  • kayaks getting vertical in North Wales tidal races
  • and special bonus material: full 25 minute documentary of the first all-female circumnavigation of Tasmania by Justine Curgenven, Trys Morris and Gemma Rawlings.

Someone on paddling.net message boards called the first movie "porn for sea kayaking junkies" and, now, it seems that informal acronyms TITS and TITS2 are in use... Anyway, everybody is waiting with excitement for the new DVD. Estimated shipping date for preordered DVDs in USA is November 18th.
