On the move ... Paddling with a Camera Blog

After hosting my web pages for more than 10 years at FRII (Front Range Internet, Inc.) I am migrating to a new server and my own domains. FRII is just getting too expensive for my megabytes of pictures and videos and a growing traffic.

This blog on paddling and photography is moving to http://photokayaker.fit2paddle.com. I have already moved part of the articles and new posts are beeing published there. Old posts and archive will stay at the old server. To reduce confusion I have changed the blog name to paddling with a camera. The feed and subscription buttons on the right are pointing to the new site.

My other paddling blogs (virtual race and fit2paddle) were started under the new domain, so no changes will happen there. I am also moving some pages of Mountain Wayfarer but that shouldn't be really visible for visitors.

So, please visit a new blog location and update your bookmarks and links. Here is a summary of my paddling pages:

paddling with a camera - http://photokayaker.fit2paddle.com

Paddling and photography. Photo tips, movies, trip reports, exploration of paddling waters in Colorado and vicinity and general subjects related to paddling.

fitness paddling - http://race.fit2paddle.com

Exercise, train and race by kayak and canoe. Race reports, racing boats and gear with a bias towards marathon and ultra-marathon racing (Texas Water Safari, WaterTribe, Missouri River 340, etc.) and from a perspective of an older paddler.

virtual race - http://virtualrace.fit2paddle.com

Virtual race by kayak and canoe. Run your own 1000m, 5 mile or 10 mile time trial, record your time with GPS and submit. Everybody is welcome to enter!

Mountain Wayfarer - http://users.frii.com/uliasz/wayfarer/

My original web site devoted to paddling, racing, photography and other outdoor activities. It will evolve more towards guides for river and other paddling destinations, and perhaps, will return back to its original character. It's supposed to be a sailing site. My Wayfarer dinghy is sitting in a garage completely dominated by paddling boats during last years.

15 the Most Popular Posts in Wayfarer Blog

Gross Reservoir
I have just reviewed a number of hits in my weblog and choose 15 the most popular posts. I have many loyal visitors, but most of my traffic is coming from search engines.

The big winner is my trip report from Gross Reservoir in Front Range of Rocky Mountains which was opened for paddling last year. Of course, big names like Verlen Kruger or Steve Landick attract a lot of attention. The third popularity place is a surprise but that black and white picture of the Poudre River pops up from Google image search for some reason. That post is followed by another photo report from the Poudre paddling and by 10 tips on paddling and shooting with Pentax Optio WP/WPi.

fit2paddle - fitness paddling blog

fit2paddle - fitness paddling
I have decided to move all subjects related to training, fitness and racing from this paddling blog into a new one: fit2paddle - fitness paddling . All other subjects including trip reports, river exploration and photography will remain in the Wayfarer blog.

The fit2paddle blog will be written from a perspective of a mature paddler who after 30 years of recreational paddling (well, it was often rather intense recreation...) started to race four years ago. Who choose for his racing debut Texas Water Safari. Who is trying to train more or less regularly avoiding injuiries. Who is still improving somewhat. And who has a lot of fun from training, paddling and any other outdoor activity.

I consider myself a fitness paddler, only sometimes a racer. What is fitness paddling? Perhaps, it needs to be defined.

I hope to get contributions to this blog from my fellow paddlers.

Worf, the Newfoundland (1996-2005)

Worf worf worf Worf in Moab, UT Worf in Saratoga, WY Worf
Since Texas Water Safari in June I have been training for another race in Texas, Colorado River 100, taking place during Labor Day weekend.

Unfortunately, we couldn't go to Texas. We had to spend last days with our old friend and extraordinary Newfoundland, Worf. I am going to prepare a special page devoted to Worf, but, right now, it is still too difficult for me to go through all his pictures.
