Paddling Waters from Above

Not much paddling recently, just a little bit of bike riding along Poudre and Spring Creek bike trails in Fort Collins. I was preoccupied with preparing a presentation for the Fall Meeting of American Geophysical Society. I spent Monday through Friday together with Connie in San Francisco. It was our second trip together for the AGU meeting. I had my presentation at the very beginning of the conference and could enjoy my time there. We even managed to escape for a short trip to Alcatraz on Wednesday. It was a beautiful sunny weather with some remains of a morning fog. And, I forgot to load a battery to my camera! It was left in a hotel room for recharging.

Fortunately, I shot some pictures when flying. Despite of dirty and scratchy windows they turned quite good. I have never used a camera from airplanes before but it doesn't mean that I haven't had any thoughts about aerial photography from something flying at very low altitudes, like a power parachute.

We had a really nice weather with a good visibility when flying from Denver to San Francisco. There was a lot of snow in Rocky Mountains, then some snow in Utah. I believe we crossed Green River somewhere in north eastern Utah. Desolation-Gray Canyon? We recognized Mono Lake on the eastern side of Sierra. Boyd lake Horsetooth Reservoir

It was quite hazy over San Francisco during our return flight and not much better over Colorado. Flights from San Francisco to Denver exit mountains just south of Fort Collins over Loveland to turn right towards DIA. So, I had occasion to shoot a few pictures of my local paddling waters: narrow Horsetooth Reservoir with southwestern Fort Collins (I live at right upper corner of that picture), Boyd Lake northeast from Loveland and, finally, meandering South Platte River with sandbars and cottonwood groves below Denver.

All smaller lakes along Front Range looked frozen, but I am not so sure about Boyd Lake. I need to check it. I saw Beaver Pond when driving home. Solid!
